Paige Huck, a 45-year-old former volunteer cheerleading coach and substitute teacher at River Valley High School in Gallia County, Ohio, was arrested in August (2023) on six felony counts of unlawful sexual misconduct with minors.
We are helping survivors of the Hucks’ abuse join powerful civil legal action to hold the school accountable for what happened. Even if you are part of the ongoing criminal case, you can still join the civil lawsuit.
The civil lawsuit claims that multiple principals of River Valley High School, and at least one former superintendent of Gallia County Local Schools, knew about the allegations against Matthew Huck and his wife, Michal “Paige” Huck, as early as 2004 and yet did nothing.
The civil lawsuit also indicates that a report was made to Gallia County Jobs and Family Services in late 2016, after a nude photograph of Paige Huck was discovered on a student’s phone. The agency’s report even affirmed there were SnapChat exchanges between Mrs. Huck and students and indicated the images may have constituted a federal crime – and yet there was never a criminal investigation.
Until now. Eight years later.
Astoundingly, Matthew Huck, also an agriculture teacher at River Valley, was only recently placed on leave pending the case’s outcome, after having earlier been approved to teach and coach for the upcoming school year by the Board of Education last July (2023).
If you were a student at River Valley High School and exposed to inappropriate behavior by Paige or Matthew Huck, it is important to understand that this was not your fault. You were a minor. The Hucks took advantage of you and the school did not protect you.
While the ongoing criminal case is important, it is critically important for all survivors to come forward and join the civil lawsuit. This is how you can pursue justice and create change so that this never happens again.
